THE LOCKHART-JEROME-CHURCHILL CONNECTION

One of the earliest, if not the first, JEROME in America was Timothy JEROME
who came from England in 1710. Timothy settled in Wallingford, Connecticut
where he married Abigail and fathered ten children. Timothy died a wealthy
man leaving a large estate, including property in New Cambridge (Bristol).

Two of Timothy's sons built homes in New Cambridge. William and Zerubbabel
(ancestors of Sarah E. LOCKHART) founded the Bristol branch of the family.

Samuel JEROME, another son of Timothy and Abigail, moved to Massachusetts
in 1794. Shortly after, he moved to Onondago County in New York, settled
there and raised his family who in turn settled there. Samuel had a son Aaron;
Aaron had a son Isaac and Isaac had a son Leonard who was the father of
Jennie JEROME. Jennie married Lord Randolph CHURCHILL and was the
mother of Sir Winston CHURCHILL.

On his father's side, Sir Winston was descended from the first Duke of
Marlborough. One CHURCHILL biographer, G. Bocca, states, "It is probable
that Winston's American blood and ancestry had a good deal to do with his
distinguished career, there were very few CHURCHILLs with the strong
spirit and perseverance that was evident in the JEROME strain.

Zerubbabel JEROME was the father of Thomas JEROME, who was the father
of Thomas JEROME, Jr.; his son Thomas Jefferson JEROME was the father
of Thomas Jefferson JEROME, Jr. who was born June 2, 1800 in Bristol,
Connecticut. On May 21, 1822, he married Catherine MCLARTY who was
born in Mecklenburg Co., NC on Sept. 05, 1800. They both lived and died in
Union Co., NC where their daughter, Janet Miriam JEROME, was born
April 22, 1828. On August 10, 1848 she married John Copeland WILLIAMS,
also from Union Co., NC. Their daughter, Cora Ellen WILLIAMS, was born in
Union Co., NC on June 11, 1850. Cora married Mathis Darling LOCKHART
on April 28, 1878. She died May 11, 1929 in Richmond Co., NC and was
buried beside her husband, Mathis, at Silver Run Cemetery in an unmarked
grave.
